Today I am reviewing the Behance Action Book, based on their “Action Method” which has been specifically designed with the help of various Creative Professionals. This is the backbone product in their line, which also features smaller notebooks, stickers and other stationery designed with productivity at the workplace in mind.

Basically, the Action Book is an 8.5” x 10.5” (216mm x 266mm) semi-hardcover, double ring spiral-bound notepad designed for taking with you to meetings at work. Unfortunately where I work I do not go to very many meetings, however I have had a little experience, and know that the Action Book does what it aims to very well.

The cover is black, with large bold words “Action Book” embossed on the front, and a small “Behance” on the back. It’s quite pleasing to the touch, as it feels like it has been made from a mix of rubber, and cardboard. It is marketed as a Semi-hard Suede touch, and I think that sums it up.

Inside, you are greeted with the main page, made up of 5 sections. The Reference / Date block, the Prep / Focus block, a grid section labelled Notations, an Action Steps section and the Backburner. The pages are all double-perforated both before, and after punched holes for a three-ring binder, allowing you to store your ideas in other mediums as well.

The notebooks are all created with the Behance Action Methodology in mind. I won’t go in to too much detail, as it is all on their website (and explained in the small booklet included with the Action Book), however it is a way of thinking which aids with remembering steps and actions brought forward in meetings or during the day, and being the most efficient you can be.

On the back of each page is a whole page of grid-ruled paper. This is perfect for sketches or larger notes which don’t fit on the main page.

The paper is an 80lb (which works out at about 118gsm) stock, and is quite nice. It feels rougher than Clairefontaine paper, however didn’t feather or bleed in the writing tests. There was a bit of show through with the Sharpie and the wet fountain pen.  The colour and ruling throughout the Action Book is very high quality, and looks quite professional.

In summary, if you are looking for something to take to meetings and use in the office, this book is definitely for you. It will keep all those crazy ideas in order, and be the perfect reference once that meeting is over. It’s a little expensive (coming in at about $15 US plus shipping from the Creatives Outfitter where Behance sell all their products) however if this is for work, chances are the company would pay for it, or you could claim it on your tax return. Perfect!

I will be giving this to one of my colleagues who is starting a project, and he has offered to give me an on-the-job review in the future.
