As I’m only a recently new fountain pen user, I decided to branch out and try a few more from my recent Lamy purchase. The first place I looked was eBay, where I came across this stylish little fountain pen.

Baoer 801 Aurora Borealis Fountain Pen

The Baoer 801 Aurora Borealis fountain pen only set me back $2.39 from eBay, and was worth every cent. I’m a major fan of different, wonderful colours, and this pen was exactly what I was looking for. It has an amazing translucent Aurora Borealis pattern, in lovely greens, reds and blues. The pictures certainly don’t do it justice, you’d have to go buy your own to see just how magnificent it really is.

My pen came with a fine nib, which so far has been my favourite, and takes a standard international cartridge. It came with a converter too, so if you prefer to used bottled ink, then you’ll have no problems with this pen. the Baoer 801 is also quite a slim pen compared to my Lamy. It doesn’t have an amazing grip, either. But what do you expect for $2.39?

I inked mine with just a Jinhao black cartridge and it works fine. The pen is also quite a smooth writer. I won’t go as far as to say it’s as smooth as my Lamy, but it’s a decent writer if you want a new fountain pen for cheap.

If you’re looking for a cheap, yet beautiful looking fountain pen, I’d suggest to give this one a try. There are a bunch of cool lower-priced fountain pens on eBay too, so if you’re in the mood to do some pen shopping, go give it a whirl and let me know what you find.
